Dear Family and Friends,
The month of May seems always eventful and joyful: Baptism, Ordination, National Day of Prayer, Mother’s Day, Day
of Pentecost, and The Holy Trinity Day... In the midst of everything, word came to us that Calvin had won his election
and become the ASB president of Oak Ave School. We are very proud of Calvin and lots of rejoicing!
As we say in Chinese, we had “double happiness” in our family. As Jenny and I celebrated Calvin in his new position
of service, Troop 169 had made Frank their new chairperson. As I presided my first parents’ meeting the other day, I
truly enjoyed my new job as Chairman Wang. For a moment Jenny felt like the happiest woman in the world: having
both a president and a chairman in her life right before Mother’s Day. Calvin and I both think our new opportunity of
service is a good gift for Jenny, and for all the mothers in our congregation.
As a family, we have richly experienced motherly love at Bethlehem. With a Bible in hand, I rushed to Arcadia
Methodist the other day visiting Millie after she fell down and was badly hurt. Bob is a humorous man but had deep
concerns on his face as he was standing by her bedside. Millie looked really fragile and weak laying there unable to
move a bit. She had tears in her eyes upon seeing me. And one of the first things she said was “how is Jenny and
Calvin doing?” My eyes became watery that moment… William Goldsmith Brown said, “The sweetest sounds to
mortal given are heard in Mother, Home, and Heaven.” Before I could say anything pastoral, I sensed much comfort
in a peaceful presence of motherly love at home.
Millie is a strong faithful lady. Just as God has restored health to Gervaise and Margie after their accidents, God will
also see Millie through and grant her a full recovery. All we need do at this point is pray! Our Lord Jesus said unto
her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace” (Mark 5:34). Indeed, as Paul testified, “The God of peace
shall be with you” (Philippians 4:9). As we celebrate Mother’s Day, we rejoice in their strong faith and prayer and
celebrate having these great mothers in our midst.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to
me all my life.” My beloved, as we wish Happy Mother’s Day blessings, I trust that you remember your mother’s
prayers. May you also know our mothers’ prayers at Bethlehem. Happy Mother’s Day!
In God’s grace,
Pastor Frank
